Elisa Grezzani
Elisa Grezzani. A master of the interplay between colors, surfaces, and layers, Grezzani prioritizes the aesthetic component. By working on several paintings simultaneously, she maintains a certain distance to her art. The result are works characterized by both balance and tension, as well as their own distinct inner harmony.

About
Elisa Grezzani.
Grezzani’s abstract works are marked by her skillful application and removal of multiple layers of paint, typically applied on paper and wood, as exemplified in the series flying carpets and new visions, currently on view in the rooms of the Hotel Aurora in Merano. The materiality of oil and acrylic paint—the artist’s preferred medium—is complemented and enhanced by layers of transparent synthetic resin. This approach lends depth to the works and definition to the forms and figures. The viewer instinctively moves closer to Grezzani’s paintings to explore them more closely. An interplay between light and shadow is revealed. It is only upon a closer inspection of the works that the viewer discovers the partially concealed shapes and ornaments, whose dynamism and symmetry enchant the eyes. Strong colors dominate and mesmerize the viewer. The artist translates experiences, emotions, thoughts, and inner states into quickly applied brushstrokes and dabs of color, which make space for one’s own inner dialogues and moments of spiritual development.
An example of the immense power and beauty of Grezzani’s work, the installation Your Eyes Will Follow Me, which is currently mounted on the facade of the Hotel Aurora and best viewed from the Kurpromenade. The artist always uses one of her paintings as the source material for such works, transforming them into gigantic computer-generated prints. The oversized works are reminiscent of large advertising posters and skillfully alter the perception of Merano’s cityscape. These works allow passers-by to immerse themselves freely and personally in the artist’s brilliant color explosions and skillful color choreographies. Fundamental questions about the role of art, culture, and ultimately beauty also come into play.
“For me, beauty, in the broadest sense, is the desire to achieve a balance between form and color. For me, beauty is a fundamental and inalienable asset. We need beauty in dark moments and in moments of light. ”Elisa Grezzani

THE IDEA
The aim is to curate the Hotel’s art specifically - we want there to be good stories and a lasting wellbeing for the guests as well as try to make them have a unique and distinctive experience. The interplay of art design and the Hotel Aurora’s architecture is what characterizes this special place in South Tyrol. The historic hotel in Merano is marked by art treasures and designer pieces that one can find throughout the hotel as well as in every room and this is what makes the Aurora so outstanding. Carte Blanche will host about 6 art exhibitions per year and is keen on giving artists the opportunity to also create site specific works for the hotel that will be shown permanently. The shown art works as well as art editions of works on display will be available at the Hotels Aurora’s own art corner.
